Syrian-Spanish flamenco: talk + film + concert with Jan Youssef

From Syria to new flamenco landscapes

An evening of film, conversation and live music with the Syrian guitarist and composer Jan Youssef and his new debut album The Clearing.

Jan Youssef’s music is rooted in flamenco but moves freely between jazz, oriental soundscapes and contemporary composition. After a life spanning Syria, Turkey, Germany and now Greece, he has found a personal musical language shaped by movement, places, nature and transformation.

The evening begins at 20.00 with a conversation and a film from Other Story, opening a window onto Jan’s story and artistic journey.

At 21.00 Jan Youssef picks up his guitar and plays music from The Clearing – his first album of his own compositions, written on the Greek island of Aegina. The music starts from flamenco traditions and opens them up to new musical landscapes.

An intimate evening about crossing borders, finding your own voice – and everything a guitar can carry with it.
